Quick take: UniFi G5 Turret and G6 Bullet bases don't line up with the screw holes on a standard junction box. An adapter plate covers the box, lines up with the camera base and lets the Ethernet cable and RJ45 plug sit inside the box, out of the weather and out of sight.
Why mount a camera on a junction box?
- No cable on the wall. The Ethernet run comes straight out of the soffit or wall into the camera.
- Weather protection. The RJ45 connector sits inside the box, not exposed under the eaves.
- Solid anchor. A box is screwed to framing, so the camera doesn't wobble on thin vinyl soffit.
- Clean look. One plate, one camera, no surface conduit.

Option 1: reuse an existing soffit junction box
Many houses already have a box in the soffit or on the wall from an old floodlight, motion light or porch light. That box is a ready-made camera spot.
- Turn off the breaker for that circuit and confirm the wires are dead with a voltage tester.
- Remove the old fixture. Cap and properly terminate the old wiring, or have an electrician remove it. Never leave live mains wiring loose in a box with your Ethernet cable.
- Fish a Cat6 cable from your PoE switch or injector to the box, usually through the attic.
- Check the box shape: rectangular (single-gang) or round/octagon (4"). That decides which plate you need.
Option 2: add your own junction box
No box where you want the camera? Add one. A box gives you the same hidden cable routing as a pro install, and it's a weekend job.
- Pick a spot under the soffit with a clear view and a framing member or solid backing nearby.
- Use an old-work (remodel) single-gang box, or a 4" octagon box on a brace. Trace it and cut the opening.
- Run Cat6 from the attic down into the opening before you set the box.
- Pull the cable into the box and fasten the box so it sits flush and doesn't move.

Pick the right adapter plate
Match the plate to your camera and your box:
- Junction Box Adapter Plate for UniFi G5 Turret & G5 Turret Ultra
- Junction Box Adapter Plate for UniFi G6 Bullet & G5 Bullet
Each comes in two box types, Rectangular (single-gang) or Octagon (4"), in white, black or gray to match your trim. Both are weather and UV resistant, include 2 stainless steel screws and are made in Canada.

Mounting a UniFi G5 Turret

- Pull the Ethernet cable through the junction box.
- Feed the cable through the centre hole and screw the adapter plate to the box with the 2 included stainless steel screws.
- Attach the G5 Turret mounting base to the plate with the screws that came with the camera.
- Plug in the cable, twist the camera onto its base and aim it.
Mounting a UniFi G6 Bullet

- Pull the Ethernet cable through the junction box.
- Feed the cable through the centre hole and screw the adapter plate to the box with the 2 included stainless steel screws.
- Attach the camera's circular mounting bracket to the plate with the screws that came with the camera.
- Plug in the cable, fit the G6 Bullet onto its base and aim it.
Tip: leave a little slack coiled in the box so you can re-terminate the cable later without pulling a new run.
Questions
Does the G5 Turret plate fit the G5 Turret Ultra?
Yes. The G5 Turret plate fits both the G5 Turret and the G5 Turret Ultra.
Does the G6 Bullet plate fit the G5 Bullet?
Yes. It fits the G6 Bullet and the G5 Bullet.
Can I use these plates outdoors?
Yes. They're weather and UV resistant and made for soffits, siding and outside walls.
Do I need a junction box on a flat wall?
The plates are made to cover a box. If you're adding a camera to a wall, adding a box first gives you the same hidden cable run as a soffit install.
