LeafEnemy Gutter Downspout Filter Instructions

Installation and yearly care for the LeafEnemy gutter downspout filter.

Installation

  1. Clean the downspout entrance. Wipe the surrounding gutter down so it is clear of dirt and debris. The nano tape needs a clean surface to stick.
  2. Peel back the sticker covers. Insert the bottom of the filter into the downspout, making sure at least some of the nano tape sticks to the surrounding gutter to keep the filter in place.

The bottom portion slides into the downspout; the flat base plate with the nano tape sits on the gutter.

Installed: base plate flat on the gutter floor, cage over the downspout.
Note

Don't worry about getting a lot of surface area with the nano tape. It is there to stop the filter shifting during storms and high water flow, and to keep animals from knocking it out of place.

Maintenance

  1. Check the filter at least once a year. Clear any pile-ups and make sure it is still in place. Check more often if you have a lot of trees nearby; every location is different.
  2. Gaps between the filter and the downspout edges are fine. See below.

Leaves pile up against the cage instead of going down the downspout. Clear them at your yearly check.
Gaps are fine

You do not need a perfect seal. The filter is there to trap large objects. Gaps let smaller debris through, which flows easily down the downspout, and let sand washing off the shingles drain instead of piling up and blocking the water.
